The Right Outfit Makes a Big Difference
With summer upon us, it is very important to have your son or daughter dressed
in proper gymnastics attire. Metro's attire policy is:
Girls should wear leotards (our #1 choice), or t-shirts that can only be tucked into their shorts. It is a safety issue to wear a loose t-shirt that cannot be tucked.
Boys can wear a T-shirt that is tucked in with shorts.
All long hair MUST be pulled back in rubber binders and hair
clips. Parents need to make sure that when the gymnastics outfit goes on,
the hair goes up and away from the face.
Also, the summer means heat. While Metro is air conditioned, on those real hot days it still becomes very warm in here. Making sure your child is dressed appropriately will help them stay cool.
Does your daughter ever complain that she gets red marks or tears on her skin at her hip line when she is on the bars? When she becomes sweaty, her skin is more likely to stick to the bar and without the protection of shorts, her skin can get a slight tear in it. This happens when your daughter is not wearing shorts while working out on the bars.
The Metro Pro-Shop has everything you need to outfit your child for their gymnastics classes. Every month, we have new arrivals to our product line… be sure to stop by and check it out!
Summer is the perfect time to register your child for multiple sessions each week to strengthen and condition them with twice the fun.

Metro Cheer Hard at Work
Metro Spirit All Stars have started the season with two teams and are working
hard already. Team Force-14 and younger and Team Power-18 and younger.
It was a busy May for the Cheer teams. Both teams combined to perform at Mini Nationals May 16th at Metro Gymnastics Center. There were some jitters but all went fabulous. We also participated at Mary Woodward Elementary in Tigard on May 29th and at Tualatin’s Spring Fling Festival on May 30th.
It’s not too late to join a team that can bring success to your individual on and off the Cheer mat. Contact Team Director Dale Agbayani for more information. dalea@metrogymnastics.com
Metro Developmental-Rec Cheer Team
The purpose of this team is to allow athletes to learn and participate in a
team atmosphere without the expectations and demands of our competitive travelling
teams. The Developmental-Rec (D-Rec) team offers the same instruction and
discipline at a reduce rate on tuition, uniform costs, and coaches fees.
The athletes will learn a full routine and will be expected to perform these
routines at least 3-5 times. Teams will be formed by August 1 and the season
will end March 31. Many of the “options” our competitive teams have (warm-ups,
hoodies with the Metro logo, team bag, etc) will be available to the non-competitive
cheerleader but not required. The only part of the uniform that will be required
is practice wear (shirts and shorts), shoes, hair ribbon, and performance
top.
Why join D-Rec vs competitive squad?
First and foremost is cost. Metro’s D-Rec team wants to provide an opportunity
to families who would like to participate in team cheer, but financially cannot
commit to our competitive program. Also, it is a GREAT starting point for girls
(and guys) who want to experience cheer for the first time, “get their feet
wet,” and not feel the pressure of time and financial commitments.
Who should join this team?
Anyone who has ever wanted to participate in cheer but did not want to commit
to a competitive team.
Athletes who want to “try-out” cheer to see if it is a fit for them and their futures.
Anyone thinking of joining a high school or college team but has not ever cheered.
Gymnasts and dancers who want to continue their skills but not commit to longer training times.
Anyone who enjoys having FUN!
What kind of financial commitment am I looking at?
Tuition for this team will be almost half of what we expect of our competitive
teams. Why? Because we will only be training half as much! Tuition for this
team will be $75 per month and includes a tumbling hour especially for members
of our teams. This gives them a chance to “hang out” with our comp teams and
create new friendships.
Uniform costs for this program also will not be as much because we are not purchasing competitive uniforms. A cost breakdown will be provided upon request but total uniform costs should not exceed $110 and will be spread out in 2 payments.
Still not sure about cheer?? See the info about our FREE cheer clinic on June 6th, below. Sign-up now!! E-mail dalea@metrogymnastics.com or call Coach Dale at 503-860-2966 for more info.

Yes, it’s true. The end of an absolutely wonderful year is drawing near…
We sure did have lots of fun in the month of May.
Many thanks to Tracy and Jon Karsseboom owners of The Garden Corner. The children had a truly delightful time touring the gardens and planting flowers for their Mom’s for Mother’s Day on there field trip.
Our 50’s Rock n’ Roll Mother’s Day Celebration was one of the best!!! The children sang songs, danced, & did the limbo. After their performance we all enjoyed ice cream sodas & cookies together!
In our MWF and Pre k classes we have been reviewing colors, shapes, numbers,
letters and concepts that we have been focusing on all year. Some of the
themes we incorporated into the review we’re Chicka, Chicka Boom, Boom,
Bananas About letters, Reviewing & Recognizing numbers with Flocks of
Toucans, Picnic Pleasures…Count on Ants, and picnic jump rope and lots of
caterpillars.
We enjoyed Red Berries, Ripe Berries & We’re Wild about Watermelons!! For Cinco De Mayo we made sombreros, danced around #’s to Mariachi music & celebrated with a story & made quesadillas to enjoy!!!
Our Character Education focus: I accept you as you are.
In our TUTH class we focused each day on Fun Mini one day themes! Guinea Pigs; we made puppets, had guinea pig playtime crawling through tunnels, and the children had fun making guinea pig grub with pretzels, peanut butter and cherrios. They had a jiggly, wiggly day making “sense-sational” books with flavored gelatin, had a jiggly relay with small water balloons and shook the sillies out. We had a Button Day, Flashlight Day, and ended May with a Slippery, Slimy Day making goop soup, had a tasty finger painting project, played with flubber and sang about bringing home a slippery, slimy pet.
As we enter into the month of June we will be having a Career day, Investigating Rocks, Focusing on how special Dad’s are and a theme on Playful Pirates as we sail into summer with end of the year parties and Graduation day on June 15th & 16th.
Our field trip for June is to Horning’s Hideout to go fishing and have a picnic with Dad.
Summer’s Here…
Another year
Of school s at an end.
We’ve learned a lot
And grown a lot
And made a lot
Of friends.
We’ll say good bye, now Summer’s here,
It’s time for us to part.
But we’ll remember all our friends
And keep them in our hearts.
We have thoroughly enjoyed working and playing with your children. Thanks
for your willingness to be so involved in your children’s lives and really
make a difference for them. We are truly blessed by each of you! Thank
you so much for sharing your children with us!
Warmly,
Teacher Marylynn

a graduation or any event that calls for fun, Metro is the only call you

There is an additional charge of $3.50 per child when more than ten (10)
children attend the party.

WHY GYMNASTICS for Preschool age kids during the summer? There is no better
way to get your kids ready to start school – than gymnastics! We work
hard in every class to teach them important social skills: Waiting their
turn, listen to the teacher, following directions, being patient with other
kids & following the correct sequence of events – very important for
beginning math and reading skills!
We know that adding gymnastics into their weekly routine with get them
ready for school & ready to learn from day one!
COMING SOON……

Are You a Sports Parent Enabler?
It’s not hard to conclude that the misbehavior and misconduct displayed
by many college and pro athletes is because the individuals feel entitled
to do so. Guess where that attitude came from?
Michael Boyle of Strengthcoach.com addressed this issue with these lessons
for sports parents:
You won’t always be there to pave the way for your child, fix things,
argue with coaches, etc. Constantly insulating kids from difficult situations
and consistently cleaning up their mess defeats the purpose of sports.
Sports are about learning to succeed and fail, not just to
succeed. Sports should primarily provide life lessons. If the lesson is
that Mom and Dad can and will fix everything, later life will be difficult.
If the lesson is that sports are what are really important, be prepared
for big problems down the road.
Failure lessons are often more important than the successes.
We screw things up when we attempt to alter the normal path. Failures experienced
at 21 are far more painful than those at 12. You don’t do your child a service
by protecting him or her; you’re doing a disservice.
The next time you make a decision involving your child’s sports,
ask yourself: “Am I preparing the child for the path or the path for the
child?”

Ending on a High Note!
Wow...here we are, yet again, at the end of another school year. It seems
like time just whirls by when intelligent play is our most fundamental
concern. That is how we roll at Club Metro: art, snacks, outdoors, gym
and the fabulous community that is Metro Gymnastics. I will take this
opportunity to wish all of the “Club” kids a good journey as they venture
forth in life. I also extend a warm welcome, and return, to our next generation
of friends coming to play, imagine and learn with us next school year.
Wishing you all an adventurous summer,
Aimé

Tigard School Teachers Need Your Help!
Metro Gymnastics is pleased to support the Tigard/Tualatin Foundation in
an important project that will help raise money for one thing and one
thing only… saving our teachers!
If you believe that our kids’ education is a priority, now is the time to show it. State budget cuts will have a direct and devastating effect on each of our 15 Tigard-Tualatin schools. Every student will suffer from the loss of talented, enthusiastic teachers; larger class sizes; and elimination or reduction of music, choir , PE, foreign language, art, after-school activities and high school athletics.
But together, we can make a difference! Our goal, to raise $1.3 million by the end of this summer, would provide enough funds to put one teacher back into every school in our district for the next two years (2009/2010 school year). We have to act now!
Show your support by purchasing a “Bridging the Gap” wristband at school. These bright green wristbands are available by filling out the following order form and dropping it off at the Templeton Office with a check. You can buy bracelets directly in the office or you can send an order in with your child and those orders will be filled twice a week and wristbands will be sent home with your child.
Adult size = $5.00
Child size = $3.00

Please donate more if you can so we can reach our goal even faster. There
will be other fundraisers this summer that will also raise money just for
this cause so look for them in the throughout the Tigard community. You
can purchase your wristband at Metro Gymnastics next time you stop by. Download
